I have an unrelated question that's been breaking my brain. It may be a stupid question but I'm going to ask it anyway.
Right now, everyone is basically posting from some version of a node where content is presented i similar format (let's call it twitter style) it makes sense that the content is readable across all of the platforms.
What happens if someone creates a reddit style platform and content is presented differently? Are nodes just displaying content they can read in a certain way. If I was to post a topic on a DeSo based Reddit style platform, I assume that if I look at my profile on Diamond, I won't see that post show up on my profile will I? Content out of context obviously won't make any sense.

there is a structure to the data. after all, this is NOT a general-purpose blockchain - that is a big repeated bit of info so if it's false, that would be a huge problem!
there are posts. comments i believe are also posts, but with a parent hashcode linking to the post/comment it belongs to.
post has body, timestamp, author, link to media, etc.
messages have sender/recipient.
likes have like/unlike (1/0), giver, and link to the post
etc.
then there's the financial stuff too.
people can use this structure however they want.

It's okay. I was giggling to myself about it. I realize a lot of people don't actually know that. I've been telling people since the beginning :)
I think even people that might know it forget and forget that if people are tagged in a post they have written, each time the post is edited, all of those people get tagged again...and...again...and again with every edit (Im reminded of this because sometimes my notifications feed is filled with the same post that someone edited 17 times)

so what actually happens if you click on one of the first notifications where you were tagged? does it take you to that original comment/post that exists in a kind of ~linked list node void~ or does it take you to the most recent edited version?

This was something I was curious about early on. The likes/diamonds/comments stay attached to the post whether edited or not. I was concerned that I was losing the original engagement on a post by editing it (since it creates a new post) but that's not the case.
And when you click on any of the old notification about a post, it takes you to the new edited version, as if there was just one. It doesn't give you the "this content no longer exists" (or whatever the message is) which you get if a post is actually hidden.

using my dev mind, i think they put the hashcode of the original post into the edited version and not even including all of the original metadata, just the new edited body.
one way to learn more - when you have something to edit, note the hashcode (the url). after you edit it, when you view the edited version, does it keep the original url? i think it ~probably does~ since that would be a pain if you had linked to your content elsewhere.
so it uses the original post, and looks for most recent post including its hashcode, if exists, use body from that.

It's a bit of a pain in the ass but it's doable. On the apps, you can't see the URL so you need to copy and past the link (there is basically a menu item to do that) somewhere then edit and do it again and compare.

i have no idea how all of the nodes implement it, that's part of my issue.
on other nodes, i am guessing you see the original comment with the mistake, following by another comment with the full text where the mistake is gone.
but i also don't like to use an app to write posts, i generally only use the app in a pinch.

I don't think that's how it works. I'm pretty sure there is something in the hide function which the nodes are filtering. I do edit quite a lot because typos on my own stuff drives me crazy and I have never seen duplicate posts with the original unedited version. I tested this out a lot in the early days of this functionality. I suppose in the future, a node could display all content since it's technically on the blockchain but I can't imagine who would want to be on a platform that does that. It seems chaotic. So for me, I edit for the visual aspect. I don't actually care, in the long run, if there is duplicate content.
I do most of my posting from my computer unless I'm in bed but until DeSocialWorld upgraded to 5k character posts, I wrote my long posts in Word, emailed them to myself and posted from one of the mobile apps because they have "unlimited" character limits (I say unlimited because 20k is the limit at the protocol level). I type with my thumb on my phone so I try to limit posts to when I have my computer open.
But I'm also a crazy person about responding to comments so I tend to respond to those quickly and without careful thought from my phone, again, if I read them in bed (someones I'm not really awake and reading and writing with only one eye open)
If I ever write "abs" rather than "and" you'll know I'm on my phone. For some unknown reason, my phone autocorrects to "abs". There is no explanation for it.

I know how "abs" happened. It's kind of joke that I'm manifesting myself to have abs but really it's because I cut off my nails after a few months of quarantine and my keyboard was confused since I was typing a little differently. So it tried to figure it out. It guessed wrong on the "and"
I love DeSocialWorld especially for comments because clearly I can be just a wordy there :)
The format of comment threads is terrible. They are quite difficult to follow (which is too bad because I have some great conversations deep in a comment thread...but also kind of find that they are hidden unless you know to look.
Aside from FB, this is my first venture into posting with my own name and my own voice. On Twitter I had only used business accounts and Instagram was just my D-list celeb dogs.

I figured there was probably some way to read the data to present info in a format that works for the interface of a given site across DeSo Platforms.
I thought this question was hidden deep in a comment thread and nobody would see it. I always forget comments get reposted (I realize it's crazy that I would forget something like that). I would try to be more articulate. lol
But while I realize there is a way to pull and post data, I'm not sure that we want that to happen because of the context issue. I think that's what I was trying to get at.
This is one of the reasons I don't use OneClout because the content I write in a DeSo format doesn't really work for me as directly posted to Twitter and broken up into a comment thread.

yes i also don't understand the way things get posted to twitter in that way. it seems like a way to get muted on twitter more than anything. would make more sense imo to just create a nice link to the post on diamondapp, and that shareable link includes a tiny bit of the content.
i wonder if posts are flagged w/originating node, so nodes can exclude showing any data from nodes using totally diff. formats

It's fine. Everyone does it. I know quote reposting comments is the new thing, even though I personally prefer to keep comment threads going. Reports of my main posts don't bother me. It's reposts of deep comment threads that I find alarming, firstly because they are always riddled with typos because I write them so quickly and secondly because I always feel like people are doing it to call me out on something. lol
There is definitely going to be a disconnect in how posts across different platforms work in context so there will have to be some kind of filtering mechanism so a platform like Diamond isn't full of nonsensical content pulled from, for example, a reddit style DeSo platform. I don't know if the issue has arisen yet since I don't think there are any nodes that function in a way that's different from BitClout/Diamond in the style of posts that are created.
I don't think most DeSo users actually care all that much about their Twitter content. I only set up a personal account because DeSo people asked me to hang out there. Most are just there to promote DeSo so they probably don't want to take the extra time to create a new post with a link (although it would be a much better way to direct traffic to DeSo) than to just let it post without any effort using OneClout.

i wonder what the issue would be having separate blockchains for different formats of data. in the end, nodes download all the data anyway, so it's not like they would be hit with a large amount of new data to maintain. i guess the hope/idea is that even drastically different formats could still get engagement at another node if/when that node creates a proper view for that format.

I'm curious to see how it all plays out because DeSo can really only be successful, in my opinion if the apps built on it are diverse in nature. We don't need more of the same styles of nodes who appeal to the same user base. So, there will probably be platforms built on DeSo, I hope, with use cases we haven't even contemplated yet.
I'm not sure about utilizing separate blockchains. The benefit of maintaining one is that you only have to build one follower base which to me is what I think is one of the biggest selling features of being on a DeSo platform will be. I'd imagine many don't want to leave their traditional social media platforms because it's a daunting task to build up a new base but it's worth the effort if technically you only have to start over once and in the long run, don't have to have different friends/family/followers on each application like you do on YouTube, Facebook, IG, Twitter for example.
I can log into entry with my DeSo profile but I believe that's the only real integration (aside from the fact that I can create a post on entre and push it directly to a DeSo post (it has a similar posting format as DeSo so it works). That platform is not blockchain based (at least yet) and you start from scratch with your network.

yeah, i try to keep direct responses to people in comments, and only do a quote repost if the comment spurred on additional thoughts or if it's something would want people to see to either correct me on or expand on. i still want to include "credit" to the comment so that's why i do that - but i'll try to train myself to just tag the person instead, in certain instances!
what i dislike is people who do it to replace commenting at _all times_, with a clear & obvious motive thinking it boosts their own profile or as if it makes their response definitive.

I don't repost a lot of stuff but I will do it if it's expanding on the conversation in what I feel is a significant way or if I want to high light a discussion and bring it more traction.
There isn't really a right or wrong way. It's kind of a stylistic choice for people. I'm only sensitive to my comments being reposted because as I explained, usually all I can see are the terrible typos or nonsense I posted while half asleep. lol
I tend to only post once or twice a day (part of that is because I like for my longer posts to stay at the top of my profile for a longer period of time). Most of my content creation is by way of comments either on my posts or others where the discussion is interesting.
But I also think it's great that some people post a lot, more like a twitter style. DeSo needs both types of content in order for people to be engaged.

i mean, i don't expect it to get traffic, but i will be able to work to get it above nodes in google. so deso outsiders would find my version of my content first.

I like it. It's just a new way of creating a personal website in terms of the content featured. I'm actually working on a site for myself (by working on, I mean less setting up and more thinking about and saying I'm going to do it) so that I can feature my longer posts and categorize them by topic for more easy reference should anyone be interesting in the content.
I was going to set the posts up more article style and also have links to the original DeSo posts, but I like what you are doing (it would save me time in the long run) partially for the SEO factor.

I'm pretty sure there is something in the hide function which the nodes are filtering. I do edit quite a lot because typos on my own stuff drives me crazy and I have never seen duplicate posts with the original unedited version. I tested this out a lot in the early days of this functionality. I suppose in the future, a node could display all content since it's technically on the blockchain but I can't imagine who would want to be on a platform that does that. It seems chaotic. So for me, I edit for the visual aspect. Everyone does it. I know quote reposting comments is the new thing, even though I personally prefer to keep comment threads going. Reports of my main posts don't bother me. It's reposts of deep comment threads that I find alarming, firstly because they are always riddled with typos because I write them so quickly and secondly because I always feel like people are doing it to call me out on something. lol\n\nThere is definitely going to be a disconnect in how posts across different platforms work in context so there will have to be some kind of filtering mechanism so a platform like Diamond isn't full of nonsensical content pulled from, for example, a reddit style DeSo platform. I don't know if the issue has arisen yet since I don't think there are any nodes that function in a way that's different from BitClout/Diamond in the style of posts that are created. \n\nI don't think most DeSo users actually care all that much about their Twitter content. The benefit of maintaining one is that you only have to build one follower base which to me is what I think is one of the biggest selling features of being on a DeSo platform will be.
