Two functions are needed in order to hyperscale an organization - good hiring and good management. This is obvious. What is not obvious is that only one of these is required for success: good hiring. Organizations that have bad hiring could not be saved by the greatest manager of all time*. Organizations, on the other hand, who have a function of great hiring alongside poor management can actually be quite successful. There is a bias for management > hiring due to the cult of personality but do not be fooled.
