Gottman, a well known researcher who specializes in relationship studies, refers often to communication between people as making “bids” for connection. When we post on DeSo we are making a “bid” to our followers, to our investors; to potential new friends and existing ones: to people who play a role in our lives. We are saying, “hey, hi. How are you? This is me today. I’m reaching out.” When these bids go unnoticed or ignored, we eventually stop making bids. We may abandon the quest for connection. We may take things personally. We may feel alone. Bids for engagement are real. When they are ignored the relationship suffers. DeSo offers a medium for connection. It’s up to us to respond to those bids for connection or risk becoming a wasteland on the blockchain of history.
