Well if you're going to add a dislike button it would be necessary to add a screw you too buddy reply button 🤣 That is a joke and would be awful and escalate bad situations. I agree that in the real world you ignore such things and if we are wise we keep in mind it only takes one word or the sentence to be cut off from a person forever.

POLLS > dislike button the reason why someone feels an urge to click "dislike" is due to rage (maybe very low on the rage spectrum, but still on it) *this is why the button is desired, when it is lacking* with a button there, the idea is normalized that it's a standard social action in reality people ignore stuff they dislike or don't agree with. tell your friends to avoid it. or report to news or police if it's illegal. ofc, ~misery loves company~ so it's probably a nice feature to see when you are miserable and want others to also be miserable 😆

this wasn't a direct response to you @MarkHumes, it is just that your comment spurred more thoughts i wanted to write lol i know that these days the reality is people love to spread hatred, and social media is a big reason why if not THE reason, so whatever chances we have to reverse that and address the problems of previous platforms, we should take just ask yourself what benefit a dislike button can give? that you can't accomplish with a comment? is it really so bad that liking is a quick action? must the other side have equal representation?!

what if the dislike button cost significantly more to use in a social media node and 50% of the dislike went to the poster of the content disliked I think I'd be more comfortable seeing it in a SM setting then ?

i guess i don't even really know if regular likes cost anything, i think they do? but it's ridiculously low. which is good, spreading good vibes should be basically free online as it is in reality. if a dislike would be similarly negligible even if it's double or triple the cost, that's not going to do anything. if anything it tells nodes to promote the dislike button because they'll make more in transaction fees. ~heck that's probably why they're implementing this feature in the first place~

yes, it costs "something", but have you ever noticed a real cost to just liking anything? the cost is negligent to us, but presumably the idea is that with enough of a userbase, nodes will see actual moneys from it. a dislike should at minimum cost what a diamond does, but i still have huge problems with the idea and the only positive i can see from it is that it will result in more money for those who collect the fees. incentivizing nodes to promote a feature that does nothing good for the community while potentially creating harm
