also i had this idea, i don't know if it's good, but i will share. we have the 560 char limit, presumably because of blockchain limitations. and it seems fine because twitter also has a limit. but why instead of having it limit, could it not work like making videos on like snapchat - when you hit the "limit", it shows that it starts a new video (post), and when you send it, it shows as one long video (post). if it should incur extra fees, just show it. maybe requires user is x days old before they get access to do it. DeSo = no limits

the limit is only on UI side, check @cloutfeed They removed the limit and some people went really wild writing super long posts

oh, well that is interesting to know, thank you! i'm not eager to write essays here by any means, but i think the way i said it- where once i completed one post it would show me that it was moving on to doing a "second post"- would not encourage essays but at least not force me to use "ofc" for "of course" and stuff like that in order to fit into the limit. because the example you pointed me to is something (NOT because of its content, which i did not even read lol) i would be embarrassed to find i had posted with how i personally use the platform

lol! i mean i understand that this is presented as a version of twitter on web3, and any other platform from instagram to twitch would also be built on it, so maybe 11k is a bit too much for anyone's feed on diamondapp (or whatever front-end of choice that uses the same node), so maybe it's not encouraged to go as crazy as you apparently did, but we could have the ability to at least write the same rough amount of content minus any shorthand. 😆 i'm just playing about your 11k ahah 😄 maybe a 2nd text box for the tl;dr could be added though!

The 560 character limit is not based on the blockchain. For example there are several nodes and even big clout plus plug-in that will allow you to post larger amounts of characters per post. There is even the Android app @cloutfeed that allows you to post a ridiculously large amount of characters per post and even reply. So what you are looking for and or requesting, is already provided by different nodes and even phone apps. One of the big concepts that some people fail to realize is that the DeSo blockchain is a ripe, fertile substrate to build decentralized social applications on. It is up to the different application creators to come up with the variety of ways that their clients would utilize the overarching applications. With that said please keep these ideas that you have coming as they are extremely useful and beneficial for current creators and creators in the future that may be inspired by some of the needs of the overall community. If you're interested, I do recommend checking out different nodes to see what flavor my suit you best. For me, when I'm on my desktop I personally use @love4src and when I'm on my phone I use @cloutfeed . Those are the two primary ways that I access the DeSo blockchain in a social manner.

i have an ~okay-ish~ understanding - but i appreciate your explanation and since i made the mistake it's good to have your comment attached! what i don't know yet is how much can stay on the blockchain vs what has to be stored externally is there a way to describe the blockchain in terms of a relational db? is there something akin to a table where users/profiles go, another for posts? (and i think comments are posts or at least inherit) if so, would post.content be like text, nvarchar(n)? or is it like some kind of constant flow of json i learning

I wish I could answer those questions for you, as I'm in a very similar boat with my wanting to understand. I had the exact same questions as you with regards to rational databases and even json as those are things that I am very familiar with. Maybe someone with a bit more knowledge, like @kanshi, might hop on this thread and enlighten both of us.

i realize that now, i guess it's just based on following in twitter's footsteps where it was based on SMS limitations originally. i made a bad assumption that it was blockchain because i didn't know where 560 would come from otherwise. does this mean our profiles are also limited arbitrarily and that creators could have a lot more information on a profile page on different nodes? i'm not a fan of the idea of my content not working universally across nodes though since i don't know which will be indexed by google. i'd opt go with the LCD really.

Yes, you are correct. Our profiles are based on node restrictions. Originally, bit clout allowed for a certain amount. When new nodes came on, they too would adopt the original bit clout limitations as if anybody was using bit clout to view things, the more lengthier profiles would be truncated and cut off. However, since bitclout is no longer the primary node, other nodes are starting to explore more with their own limitations or feature adoptions.

the problem that i see with having profiles different on different nodes is that if someone finds my profile on google, i have no idea which node that link will go to. do we even have a way to opt ourselves out of being on a node? if someone makes a "girls of deso" node and includes my content in their feed, do i have any control of that? considering i own my profile here?..

it's like the inverse of one of the problems being solved. instead of not liking that twitter can ban your profile, what if it's that you don't want twitter to include you in their feed at all?😅 the node can opt out of you, but you can't opt out of it. a new horror movie coming this spring

For example there are several nodes and even big clout plus plug-in that will allow you to post larger amounts of characters per post. There is even the Android app @cloutfeed that allows you to post a ridiculously large amount of characters per post and even reply. So what you are looking for and or requesting, is already provided by different nodes and even phone apps.\n\nOne of the big concepts that some people fail to realize is that the DeSo blockchain is a ripe, fertile substrate to build decentralized social applications on. It is up to the different application creators to come up with the variety of ways that their clients would utilize the overarching applications. With that said please keep these ideas that you have coming as they are extremely useful and beneficial for current creators and creators in the future that may be inspired by some of the needs of the overall community.\n\nIf you're interested, I do recommend checking out different nodes to see what flavor my suit you best.
